Wow! I can’t believe we are a few short days away from Christmas already! Last year at this time, we hosted Christmas at our house and boy did we have a house full making it all the more merrier!

Even better, my brother-in-law and his wife made a surprise visit for the holiday with our adorable niece and nephew!  I still remember hearing a faint knock at the door and wondering what on earth it could be (normally the dogs would be barking and instead they were kind of whimpering, so I knew something wasn’t quite right).  I open the door and see our nephew standing there and it took my brain a couple of seconds to process it because they live on the East Coast and they weren’t supposed to be in Arizona.  But they were and it was such an awesome surprise!

We had made reservations to go on The Polar Express train almost a year in advance and my mother-in-law, knowing they were coming to Arizona as a surprise, secretly called and was able to make arrangements for them to join us on The Polar Express as well!  So, as a family of 13 (8 adults and 5 kids), we made our way up to Williams, Arizona to ride The Polar Express! (We stopped to play in the snow on the way up and throw some snowballs at each other first even though there wasn’t a ton of it where we stopped.  Because, why wouldn’t we?)

We got up to Williams, where The Polar Express takes off from and were ready to go!  The trip is about 90 minutes total and you get cookies and hot cocoa as you make your way to the North Pole!  The train is full of excitement and many people (adults and children) wear festive PJ’s in the spirit of the popular movie that the train ride is modeled after.

Once you get to the North Pole, a village of Christmas lights await for you to see.

Once you begin making your way back to the train depot, elves and other characters lead the way in singing Christmas carols and everyone, literally everyone, joins in!  It is seriously so much fun.  I may have had just as much (if not more) fun than some of the children on the train.  I think I even temporarily forgot I was an adult because I was singing so joyously with everyone else.

Santa begins making his way through each train car and passes out a bell to every single person on the way back and the kids get really excited for this part.  Heck, I was excited for it too because I just love Christmas so much!  This is definitely worth doing, especially if you have young children or just want to renew the magical feeling of Christmas for yourself!

If you want to go on this next year, I recommend visiting the website I linked above to see when they begin taking reservations because they often fill up fast, especially the closer it is to Christmas.  We went two days before Christmas last year and I felt like that was such a perfect day to go.  I’m sure we will go back sometime again in the future because it was a ton of fun and so worth it.
